TFSC offers entrance fees, travel grants, and educational grants to skaters, coaches, and officials who are active members of the club for the current skating year (July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027). We also offer small grants to coaches to help offset the cost of USFSA compliance, including a one-time reimbursement for the new USFSA coaching certification exam. These grants are intended to help club members offset the financial cost of participating in competitions and educational opportunities within the sport. A total of $9,500 has been allocated for grants this season, and awards are approved until that funding is exhausted.
These grants do not cover the Dogwood Open, Central Carolina competition, or any other events hosted within 50 miles of the Competition Center. Applications are due no later than 3 weeks after the event — late applications will not be accepted.

Each Synchronized Skating, Showcase Ensemble, or Theatre on Ice team qualifying for Nationals is eligible for up to $750 to cover the team’s registration fee (all team members must be Triangle FSC members representing Triangle FSC at the competition).
Frequently Asked Questions
Who decides whether a travel grant application will result in reimbursement?
The nine members of the board must unanimously agree that reimbursement will be provided based on the criteria required to be eligible for a grant.
When does the board determine if a travel grant will result in reimbursement?
The board has regularly scheduled monthly board meetings. All grant applications received since the previous board meeting are considered at the current board meeting.
Can I apply for the travel grant more than once if I compete in multiple qualifying competitions?
A TFSC member who participates in multiple competitions is only eligible for reimbursement for one competition per season through the travel grant program, whether the competitions are qualifying or nonqualifying. The travel grant reimburses a portion of travel expenses and a portion of entrance fees (up to $295). Separately, members are also eligible for one educational opportunity grant per season, so a member can receive both a travel grant and an educational grant in the same season.
However, if a member has already received a travel grant for a qualifying or nonqualifying competition, they can submit a request for an “Entrance Fee Grant” for a qualifying competition or National Championships. The difference is that no travel expenses will be covered with this type of grant, only a portion of the entry fees (up to $295).
Can I receive reimbursement for both competition entry fees if I compete in more than one event?
If the cost of the events is less than the maximum grant funding allotted, multiple event entry fees can be covered.
Am I eligible for a travel grant as a new member this year?
Members are eligible to apply for travel grants only after they have been a member in good standing for at least 1 year before the event, and must not owe any outstanding balance to the club or to the rinks.
What if I haven’t completed my volunteer hours for the current year yet?
To be eligible for a travel grant, a member must have completed the volunteer requirement for the past year (a minimum of 3 hours, a $100 donation, or another TFSC-approved substitution) and be working toward fulfilling that requirement for the current year. I don’t have receipts for some of my expenses. What should I submit?
Receipts must be submitted with the grant application. No exceptions.
How long after an event do I have to apply for a grant?
All grant applications must be received with receipts within 3 weeks of the associated event. Late applications may be considered by the board, but those submitted on time will have priority for funding. This deadline does not apply to the coach certification exam fee reimbursement, which can be submitted once volunteer hours are fulfilled.
How does the club determine how many grants will be provided?
The club sets a maximum budget for the season (July 1 to June 30) for the travel grant program. Once that budgeted amount has been used, the club will no longer provide travel grants for that year. The travel grants budget for the current season is $9,500.
How and when will I be paid if my grant is approved?
Grant funds will be paid to the participant (or parent/guardian, if the participant is a minor) within fifteen days of the board receiving the completed application, receipts, and proof of participation. Funds are dispersed by check or Venmo, whichever the recipient chooses.
